As I was driving through the rain on a cold a blustery day
The waves all crashing on the rocks as I came to Kilty Bay

Like hordes of Spanish sailors, they over-ran the quay
As if intent to reinvent the Armada’s history

It was there that I heard the Kilty dog above the roaring gale
I heard him barking at the sea; I saw his waggling tail!

Up and down the quayside he jumped and pranced all day
As if each wave had come his way like a friend, come out to play

I wish I was the Kilty dog, I’d never be afraid
I’d see a fresh adventure in every harsh tirade
I’d bark at all the problems and turn them into play
I wish I was the Kilty dog; I wouldn’t be afraid

We can build our sea defences; try to keep the storm at bay
We can fix the roof, make it water proof, we can hide ourselves away

But when I go down to Kilty on a cold a September day
I love to watch the Kilty dog; I love to see him play
